Tis the season. In just a few days, the college football transfer portal will open and a key player from Notre Dame’s 2025 defense is throwing his hat in the ring. On Tuesday, Notre Dame defensive end, Joshua Burnham, announced that he will enter the transfer portal.
Burnham arrived at Notre Dame as a freshmen from Traverse City, Michigan, in 2022. Over the last three seasons he has played in every game amassing 64 tackles, 16.5 TFL, and 6 sacks. He was arguably playing his best football during the second
half of Notre Dame’s schedule this past season.
This is a really big loss for Notre Dame. Defensive line depth is so incredibly important for teams looking to make a major run in the college football playoff, and Notre Dame has took some major hits lately. Donovan Hinish medically retired, and we have no idea what the timetable is for Jason Onye’s petition with the NCAA for a 6th year.
There is a lot of good young talent coming up, but Burnham has already proved himself as a real player — so again — this is a big loss for the Irish.
Withoput question the Irish were already needing to grab a number of defensive linemen from the transfer portal this offseason, and this move highlights the need for more veterans.
