According to a report from journalist Seb Stafford-Bloor of The Athletic (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich’s pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nathaniel Brown has the potential to develop into a “saga” due to interest from Arsenal and the big price placed on his head by Die Adler:
Nathaniel Brown’s future is yet to be resolved and any transfer this summer could well become a saga.
The German international is the subject of significant interest from Bayern and Arsenal. Currently, Bayern have held
the most extensive discussions with the player’s representatives and convincing the player to move to Munich would not be a problem. However, there is a significant difference in valuation.
Frankfurt’s asking price is €65m for Brown, whose current contract runs until 2030. There is no release clause in that contract, either. So far, Bayern have indicated no willingness to match that fee. It means that while they remain favourites to eventually sign Brown, the deal is far from complete and any negotiation is likely to be protracted.
However, Bild (via @iMiaSanMia) has a more optimistic report, which makes Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt seem much closer to an agreement:
Bayern are pushing hard to finalize the signing of Nathaniel Brown. Negotiations with Frankfurt are in full swing. Bayern are currently offering just over €50m. Frankfurt are demanding €65m. So there’s still a gap to bridge. The fact is, though, that there’s not only constructive dialogue, but the negotiations are already significantly more advanced and productive than last year’s between Bayern and Stuttgart over Nick Woltemade.
At the moment, an agreement seems likely. It remains to be seen whether the Brown transfer will be finalized before Germany’s World Cup campaign begins or afterward. If an agreement is reached, the final arrangements would proceed smoothly. Bayern could arrange a medical in the US.
One thing fans have learned about Bayern Munich this summer is that it has a “do not exceed” limit on offers for players. If the Bavarians are already balking at that price, it might be tough to convince them to eventually meet it later this summer.
