Lennart Karl’s rapid rise has earned another major piece of recognition. The Bayern Munich teenager has been named to the final 25-player shortlist for the 2026 Golden Boy Award, placing him among the best young players in European football.
Karl is not simply another name on the list. Born February 22, 2008, he is the youngest player among the 25 finalists—an impressive distinction considering the competition includes some of the biggest young stars in the game.
Karl’s breakthrough season at Bayern has made him one of the most exciting young players in Germany. He contributed nine goals and eight assists in 40 competitive appearances during the 2025/26 campaign while also earning his first senior caps for Germany.
The Golden Boy shortlist is loaded with elite young talent, including Barcelona’s Pau Cubarsí, Paris Saint-Germain’s Warren Zaïre-Emery, Manchester City’s Ayyoub Bouaddi, Chelsea’s Estêvão, and Real Madrid’s Endrick.
Bundesliga and German representation
Karl isn’t the only player with Bundesliga or German connections on the list.
The five Bundesliga players are:
- Lennart Karl — Bayern Munich
- Finn Jeltsch — VfB Stuttgart
- Saïd El Mala — FC Köln
- Konstantinos Karetsas — Borussia Dortmund
- Joane Gadou — Borussia Dortmund
Germany also has three players among the 25 finalists: Karl, Jeltsch, and El Mala. For Bayern Munich, though, Karl’s inclusion is the headline. The club has watched the teenager go from a highly regarded academy prospect to a legitimate first-team contributor at an astonishing pace.
Now, he gets to share a shortlist with the next generation of global superstars. Considering Karl is the youngest finalist in the entire field, this might only be the beginning.
