Liam Rosenior’s first ever game for Chelsea is a cup match where a bad game can mean you’re out of the competition. No pressure!
Given it was his debut it’d be understandable if Rosenior picked a relatively strong lineup just to make sure we make through to the FA Cup’s fourth round. Instead the new boss rotated as much as he could, giving changes to Jorrel Hato, Andrey Santos et al to shine.
Charlton, who are fighting to keep themselves in the Championship, didn’t offer much resistance. They didn’t register
a single shot on target in the first half while Chelsea put goalkeeper William Mannion to very hard work.
Some good chances went begging and it looked like we’d end the half goalless. Luckily for us young defender Hato had a different idea, opening the scoring for us in extra time.
Chelsea continued dominating in the second half and quickly found a second goal via Tosin Adarabioyo. But Charlton squeezed in a goal before Marc Guiu restored our two-goal lead.
Mannion continued to put on a show and it seemed we’d stop at 3-1. However with the starters now in play, Enzo Fernández assisted Pedro Neto for our fourth goal tonight — followed by Enzo himself scoring from the spot as Estêvão was fouled in the box in the very final minutes of the match.
Carefree!
- Filip Jorgensen between the posts, and Marc Guiu spearheading the front line.
- Very good first ever club goal for Jorrel Hato.
- Four goals in the second half, taking William Mannion down a peg.
- Next up: Arsenal at home in the League Cup.
- KTBFFH!
