Rogelio Reyes, a wrestler who performs in Mexico’s lucha libre circuit as “El Cuatrero,” was found guilty of domestic violence and attempted femicide on Wednesday, according to Mexican media outlets.
The charges were based on a 2023 incident which saw Reyes arrested after he allegedly grabbed his ex-girlfriend, former WWE Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer, by the throat and throw her into a wall.
In Vaquer’s statement to the police, she said the argument was started over messages Reyes was sending
to a third party. Vaquer also reportedly said a painting dropped and hit her after he threw her into the wall, which resulted in further injury.
Vaquer, 33, also stated Reyes, 30, fled the scene when she called for police.
In her complaint, Vaquer said she was informed that her trachea was almost broken by Reyes, and prosecution later reclassified the domestic violence case as attempted femicide.
Photos used in the police report later circulated online that showed visible on Vaquer’s neck.
El Heraldo De Mexico reported Reyes was initially denied parole and held at a prison after the 2023 incident until he was released in March 2025 after winning a court injunction.
After his release, Reyes worked on Mexico’s independent wrestling circuit, but now he could face decades behind bars. Per Mexico’s penal code, attempted femicide carries a maximum sentence of 46 years, while the punishment for domestic violence can be up to 6 years of incarceration.
El Cuatrero’s case has been major news in his native Mexico, and not just because he’s accused of abusing a major WWE star. He is well-known himself for his work in AAA and CMLL, and he comes from a well-known family of luchadors, perhaps most notably his father, Cien Caras, and an uncle who wrestled as Universo 2000. Additionally, his brother Sansón and cousin Forastero are currently signed to the WWE-owned AAA.
Reyes will reportedly be sentenced on May 12.
Meanwhile, Vaquer has become one of the top female wrestlers in the world since the 2023 incident involving her ex. After signing with WWE in 2024, La Primera quickly won the NXT Women’s Championship before debuting on the main roster the following year. Only months later, she won the WWE Women’s World Championship. She is currently out for an undisclosed period due to injury.
