It’s the battle we’ve all been waiting for: Julian Champagnie vs. Landry Shamet with a title on the line. Former Sixers roster miscues aside, this NBA Finals should be a fun one for a neutral observer. The New York Knicks steamrolled everyone in the Eastern Conference (including a certain team from the Delaware Valley) on their way to the first Finals appearance for the franchise since 1999. I love the fun fact that the entire Spurs starting lineup was not alive to witness that series. Meanwhile,
the San Antonio Spurs just defeated the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in an epic seven-game series. These things always change from year to year, but with Victor Wembanyama and the strong, young supporting cast on San Antonio’s roster, we could be experiencing the start of a dynasty.
Funnily enough, this Finals pairing is also a rematch of the NBA Cup final back in December, which the Knicks won.
We also get to see some version of the rest vs. rust debate play out. New York hasn’t played since completing the sweep of Cleveland all the way back on May 25. However, the Spurs have had three days off since Game 7 in Oklahoma City so they should be fully recovered as well.
As Sixers fans, I imagine many of us don’t want to see the Knicks win anything. But maybe you’re sick of all the Wemby hype and want to root for the underdog? Let us know in the comments how you’re leaning and follow along with all the exciting Game 1 action.
