The Tennessee Vols are back where they’ve spent a decent bit of this season – inside the top 15.
Tennessee moved up to the 14 spot in both the AP and Coaches Polls on Sunday after a 56-34 win over the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington.
Tennessee is the sixth of the SEC teams in the rankings this week, with Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt above them. The Commodores moved up in both polls after a 17-10 win over
Missouri. That’s not an insignificant occurrence for the Vols, as Tennessee will face the Commodores in the season finale, and they could use as much of a resume bump with a win as possible.
Speaking of resumes, Tennessee’s next shot at building on theirs comes on Saturday in Knoxville against Oklahoma. The Sooners checked in this week in both polls at #18, so it will be a battle of top 20 teams. Oklahoma held a fourth quarter 26-25 lead over Ole Miss on Saturday, but allowed Ole Miss to score the next (and final) 9 points of the game.
Soon enough, the AP and Coaches Polls will take a back seat in the national eye to the College Football Playoff rankings, which will premiere on Tuesday, November 4.
