The Wake Forest Men’s Basketball team is headed back to the Bahamas, according to Jon Rothstein.
Along with Wake Forest, the 3 other teams in what is undoubtably the B bracket are Memphis, Penn State, and a team to be determined later, though many are suggesting it could be Xavier. This year’s MTE may have a similar opponent and location
as last season, but is certainly lacking the high ranking teams like Texas Tech and Purdue. Penn State finished the 2026 season just 12-20 and ranked 139th in KenPom, Memphis finished 13-19 and ranked 133rd in KenPom, and Xavier—if they are indeed the final team—finished 15-18 and 94th in KenPom.
In the portal era, what a team did last year really isn’t indicative of how they will be this year, but this is clearly not an event with teams expected to be contenders next season. As far as transfers go, Xavier had the best offseason with the 17th ranked class on 247Sports, while Memphis (49th), Penn State (55th), and Wake (65th) seemingly didn’t improve their roster in any significant way. I wouldn’t expect any win here to end up Q1 territory, but these are teams that the Deacs should matchup pretty evenly with in terms of talent, so they should have a shot at winning both of their games.
Go Deacs!
