Before starting his managerial career with Burnley, Vincent Kompany had himself quite the career in England. The Belgian legend saw great success over his career, but mostly with Manchester City, where he enjoyed the majority of his career. During his time with City, he played some absolute top footballers including the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
In a surprising answer, the Bayern Munich manager actually named Brazil’s Ronaldinho as his toughest opponent. The answer is baffling yet
understandable at the same time. While Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are both considered possibly the greatest footballers of all time, Kompany opted for Ronaldinho.
While Messi or Ronaldo may have more titles and a greater legacy, all fans who watched Ronaldinho play know his creativity, dribbling, and movement were simply unstoppable at his peak. While he might not have been as consistent as other greats, Ronaldinho possibly had more magic in his boots than any other player.
From a defender’s point of view, it is perhaps not a surprising answer when you imagine trying to defend Ronaldinho with every single trick in the book. Kompany unfortunately missed a chance for a quick win with longtime fans by not naming a Bayern legend such as Robert Lewandowski or Arjen Robben.
