Real Madrid wrapped up their biggest win so far this season by beating Málaga at the Bernabéu on Sunday evening, courtesy of four goals from four different scorers, including an own goal from a goalkeeper, Alfonso Herrero, for the first time in La Liga since 2016.

Málaga returned to the Bernabéu for the 42nd time, including the Club Deportivo who preceded the club in its current form, and their first time since November 2017, but they remain yet to ever win at the stadium. In fact, one previous visit
in 2011 have José Mourinho his joint-biggest win as Real Madrid coach as Los Blancos won 7-0. Málaga have taken a point on only three visits this century, most recently in 2015 with a 0-0 draw. It is Real Madrid’s longest unbeaten streak in La Liga at home against the same opponent, surpassing Las Palmas (36 games), Elche (25), and Real Murcia (18). However, the Andalusian’s poor record goes beyond just Real Madrid’s home. Málaga have failed to win any of their last five visits to play in the city of Madrid, including a defeat to Atlético only two weeks ago.

With an impressive solo goal early on to break the deadlock, Jude Bellingham kept up his strong start to the season, with two goals and two assists now in the books. He has become the first Real Madrid player to be involved in four goals in the first three league games of a season since he did it himself back in 2023, and has now been involved in a goal in four consecutive games, his longest streak since December 2024. It wasn’t until November in 2025/26 that he reached four goal involvements. This was also only his second goal for Real Madrid to be classed as an individual goal, where he himself won possession and scored directly, after doing so against Valencia in January 2025.
4 – Times this decade Real Madrid have won their first three league games
Following in the footsteps of 2022/23, 2023/24, and 2025/26, Real Madrid have won their first three consecutive league games. It may seem unsurprising, but it’s actually Real Madrid’s best record since the 1960s. Until four years ago, Real Madrid had not won three games in a row to start consecutive seasons since 1967/68 and 1968/69, in a decade where Real Madrid won their first three league games in seven out of 10 seasons. This time is also unique in that consecutive seasons had different coaches. The last time that happened was in 1956/57 under José Villalonga and 1957/58 under Luis Carniglia. It’s not new to José Mourinho, though, as he achieved it in 2011/12 on the way to securing the league title.
2,486 – Days since Real Madrid last took a 3-0 lead so early in La Liga
30 minutes for a 3-0 lead is the fastest that Real Madrid have reached that scoreline since November 9th, 2019. That day, Real Madrid had the benefit of two penalties, converted by Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos, alongside another goal from the Frenchman, to be 3-0 up in 29 minutes at Ipurua against Eibar under Zinedine Zidane. The end result was a 4-0 win, just as was the case at the Bernabéu on Sunday evening.

Another game and another goal keeps Kylian Mbappé top of the goalscoring charts in La Liga, and he does so by scoring against the 23rd team he has played against in the competition. Of those, he has only failed to score against one, Elche, against whom he has only played once. His favourite opponent is Real Sociedad, with seven goals in four games, followed by Villarreal (five goals in four games) and Barcelona (four goals in three games).
87 – Passes from Trent Alexander-Arnold, more than any other player
In his first start under José Mourinho in competitive action, right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold didn’t shy away from the chance to make a statement as he came in for Denzel Dumfries. He recorded more touches than any other player on the field (117) and more passes (87), including creating three chances and one big chance. He also recorded Real Madrid’s first shot of the game and tested Alfonso Herrero on the hour mark with a shot from inside the box, and played nine passes into the final third.
