Since he accepted Big Bill’s out-of-nowhere challenge from last week’s Collision, we know Eddie Kingston will be back in an AEW ring soon. And thanks to his latest video with friend and training partner Cezar Bononi, we know that Kingston’s recovery from a leg break and knee surgery involved some serious health insurance hassles — one of which was solved by Tony Khan’s checkbook.
Kingston explained that he had his claim denied ahead of the operation he needed to repair his ACL. He’d had the same experience
with a previous injury. This time, it seems like his doctor pulled some strings, and Eddie’s boss at AEW took care of the rest:
“When I had hernia surgery three years ago, my insurance at the time said that they would cover it. The day of the surgery, they said they couldn’t cover it. So thank God other people took care of that one. I’m still paying for the anesthesia though. Still…
“And then it happened again — same insurance, with the knee surgery. The day of the knee surgery, they said, ‘Oh no, we’re not covering.’ And the surgeon kind of knew that was gonna happen, because he’s seen this before with this kind of insurance. And he was like, ‘Let me make a couple of calls.’ And then, of course, you know, Tony took care of it. I’ll say it, thank God. And then that was it.”
The former AEW Continental and ROH World champ also had issues with the same insurance delaying his physical therapy, so he finally changed providers in January.
Hopefully he won’t run into the same issues with his new insurance. Or, who knows, maybe wrestlers will become employees of big companies like AEW and WWE and start getting health insurance that covers work-related injuries? Or hell, while we’re dreaming, maybe the U.S healthcare system will get fixed?
Okay, back to reality. We’re glad Eddie’s boss did the right thing in this case. Check out the Mad King’s latest with Cezar Bononi here, and we’ll let you know when that Big Bill match is happening.
