The Tennessee Titans traded slot cornerback Roger McCreary to the Los Angeles Rams earlier today, which left Tennessee with a void at the position on its 53-man roster. To make up for the cornerback out,
the Titans plucked rookie seventh-round pick Micah Robinson off the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad. This is the second time this year that the Titans have picked up a Packers player, following their waiver claim of offensive lineman Brant Banks — who is now back on Green Bay’s practice squad.
It’s worth noting here that the Titans’ president of football operations is Chad Brinker, who spent time in the Packers’ front office from 2009 to 2022. Tennessee will also be looking for a new head coach this offseason after firing Brian Callahan from the job. Don’t be surprised if the poaching from Green Bay bleeds into the coaching department soon.
Robinson was a roster bubble player for the Packers at cutdowns and hasn’t been activated for a game this season. Without Robinson, Green Bay’s reserve cornerbacks moving forward are Bo Melton, a converted receiver who has yet to play a snap of defense in the regular season, and Kamal Hadden, who has only played five special teams snaps through seven games this season.
Following the loss of Robinson, the Packers do not have a practice squad cornerback. They have two other defensive backs, Johnathan Baldwin and Jaylin Simpson, but they are both listed as safeties by the team.
As it stands right now, three of Green Bay’s eight draft picks from April are not on the 53-man roster. Beyond Robinson, both defensive end Collin Oliver (fifth-round pick) and offensive lineman John Williams (seventh-round pick) are on injury lists. Second-round tackle Anthony Belton, fourth-round defensive end Barryn Sorrell and sixth-round defensive tackle Warren Brinson have each missed at least one game with an injury this year, too. The only rookie draft picks who have been active for every single game this year for the Packers have been receivers Matthew Golden (first round) and Savion Williams (third round).
Due to NFL rules, Robinson must be a member of the Titans’ 53-man roster for the next three weeks. After that, they can choose whether or not they want to continue to hold onto him or not. If they end up releasing him later, look for the Packers to add him back to their practice squad, like they did Banks.
