The Miami Dolphins sent their 2024 Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason in a deal that involved cornerback Jalen Ramsey, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a late round draft
pick swap. The move raised plenty of eyebrows amongst Dolphins fans, as outside of Smith, Miami’s tight end production has been severely lacking in recent years.
To fill the Jonnu Smith sized hole in the roster, the Dolphins lured a former second-team All-Pro tight end out of retirement — Darren Waller, formerly of the New York Giants, Las Vegas Raiders and Baltimore Ravens.
After suffering a quad injury during the offseason — something the tight end revealed just yesterday — the 33-year-old missed all of Miami’s preseason, plus the first three games of the 2025 regular season.
It was a long wait to finally see Darren Waller in action for the Dolphins, but his debut certainly didn’t disappoint!
Miami Dolphins Week Four MVP – Darren Waller
Waller earns the Most Valuable ‘Phin award for his Week Four performance on Monday Night Football against the New York Jets due to his incredible two touchdown performance.
The big-bodied pass catcher was a steady and reliable presence for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, as Waller nabbed a spectacular 4-yard touchdown on 4th and goal in the second quarter, and came back with a 9-yard score in the third quarter as well.
Waller silenced the doubters — of which, there had been plenty — on Monday night, and will look to build upon a stellar debut as the Dolphins travel to Carolina to play the Panthers this Sunday.
