Triple-A: Norfolk Tides vs Durham Bulls (TBR) – PPD
The Tides and Bulls were rained out last night and will make up the game today as part of a doubleheader.
Double-A: Chesapeake Baysox 4, Harrisburg Senators (WAS) 1
It was a very good day for Baysox pitching. Three pitchers held the Senators to just one run on one hit. Starter Sebastian Gongora threw five no-hit innings with one walk and two strikeouts. It is Gongora’s second straight scoreless outing. Relief pitcher Jeisson Cabrera allowed the only hit of the game, a solo home run. He was otherwise flawless. Micah Ashman closed things out with six up, six down.
On offense, the Baysox scored two runs in the fourth with small ball. Ethan Anderson doubled, then Aron Estrada singled to put runners on the corners. With one out, Griff O’Farrell bunted to bring home Anderson. A throwing error by Harrisburg’s pitcher allowed O’Farrell to reach and Estrada to get to third. A groundout by Douglas Hodo brought in Estrada for the second run. In the sixth inning, Estrada homered and Francisco Peguero singled in the fourth run.
Estrada had a three-hit game; the home run was his 13th. Anderson had a two-hit game. O’Farrell walked and singled in addition to his sac bunt.
High-A: Frederick Keys 4, Wilmington Blue Rocks (WAS) 3 – F/12
At the end of the ninth inning, this game was tied 1-1. Starting pitcher Boston Bateman held the Blue Rocks to one run in four innings despite walking four and to go along with two hits. The one run came in on a first-inning homer. Bateman struck out seven. Relief pitcher Twine Palmer closed out regulation with five shutout innings, though he walked five.
The Keys scored their first run in the sixth. Leandro Arias singled, then scored on a double from Colin Tufts. In the 10th and 11th innings, the Keys and Blue Rocks both scored their Manfred Men to keep the game going. In the 12th, back-to-back groundouts from Ike Irish and Wehiwa Aloy scored the extra runner yet again. But this time, Wilmington didn’t have an answer in the bottom half of the inning. Pitcher Chandler Marsh walked the first two batters but struck out the next three to end the game.
Irish had two hits in the game. Aloy was hitless. Tufts had a two-hit game, as did Braylin Tavera.
Low-A: Delmarva Shorebirds 8, Fayetteville Woodpeckers (HOU) 3
Starting pitcher Brayan Orrantia allowed two runs in 2.2 innings before being pulled. In that time, he allowed five hits and walked four. Not great, Brayan! The Shorebirds’ relief corp was solid, though. Kailen Hamson, Jack Crowder, and Eccel Correa combined to allow just one run on three hits over the final 6.1 innings.
The Shorbirds came back from a 2-0 deficit with a four-run fourth inning with RBI from Raylin Ramos (sac fly), Andrés Nolaya (single), and Edwin Amparo (double). They sent nine batters to the plate. Amparo tripled in the sixth, then scored on a single from Braylon Whitaker. Jordan Sanchez delivered a big blow in the eighth with a three-run homer. Amparo and Stiven Martinez scored on the play. Amparo had walked and Martinez singled.
