Good morning, baseball fans!
They almost got me, I’ll admit it. The San Francisco Giants somehow managed to get my hopes up last week, before those hopes came crashing back to reality.
After Friday night’s walk-off grand slam, I was high on the thought of October baseball. It felt like a light at the end of the tunnel that has been an odd season. But that light ended up being an oncoming train in the form of the Los Angeles Dodgers reminding us of the glaring talent disparity between the two teams.
Now, that’s not to say that I think the Giants are completely out of it. But last week, they were hot on the trail of the New York Mets to get a Wild Card spot. And now (as of the time this is being written before Tuesday night’s game) they are…tied with the Cincinnati Reds two games out. And if they lost last night’s game, they’ve lost even more ground against the Arizona Diamondbacks who have already passed them.
It’s a really crappy part of the schedule. So important, yes. But it’s so easy to lose any momentum they have when they are playing their direct opponents in both the Wild Card race and the division. Twice. In two weeks. Mays, I hate the NL West sometimes.
Anyway, my point is to take another temperature check and see how everyone is feeling this week with the ups and downs.
Personally, I think I’m going to try to intentionally retain some optimism. I think it’s easy these days to lose optimism in a lot of places in our lives, so I’m going to make the conscious choice to not do so for the Giants until I have to. Which very well could be this weekend, but I’ll hold onto it as long as I can anyway.
How are you feeling about the Giants’ playoff odds?
