Bayern Munich usually has the worst luck when it comes to injuries.
With Manuel Neuer, Jamal Musiala, and Alphonso Davies some of the key names in the roster battling with injuries, it hasn’t been smooth sailing. The team has managed splendidly so far, but any absences will be felt more strongly against a behemoth like Real Madrid in the Champions League.
It seems now that Real Madrid might have had their own stroke of misfortune, with star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois effectively ruled out of the quarterfinal
clash against Bayern with an injury per a report from .
This report was back up by The Athletic as well:
Obviously, Real Madrid has a contingency plan for this in Andriy Lunin.
Lunin will slot in for his injured teammate and has already faced Bayern Munich back in the 2023/24 UCL semifinals, where he put in two splendid shifts, resulting in a 4-3 victory for Real Madrid. Fans of Los Blancos would hope that he has a similar showing against Bayern this time.
There is one small difference, however.
This season’s Bayern Munich is not the same. It isn’t being coached by Thomas Tuchel. It isn’t a team that sits back and soaks up pressure. This is a Bayern Munich side that is unafraid to attack, is a pressing engine, and has the world’s best attacking trio in Harry Kane, Luis Díaz, and Michael Olise.
Keeping that trio quiet would require more than just elite goalkeeping. It would need a humongous defensive effort and possibly all the help from referees that Real could possibly get.
And that perhaps still won’t save them this time.
