Quillan Salkilld proved the oddsmakers right after he came into UFC 325 as the biggest favorite on the card and it barely took him three minutes to dispatch Jamie Mullarky for his fourth consecutive win inside the octagon.
After Mullarky actually tried to grapple him early on, Salkilld scored a nice reversal with a throw to bring the action down to the ground and it wasn’t long before he had a submission. Salkilld locked on a rear-naked choke — that was much more a face crank — and the grimace on Mullarky’s
face told the whole story before he was forced to tap out.
The end came at 3:02 in the first round.
“In the moment,” Salkilld said about his submission finish. “I come into these fights expecting everything. Whatever presents itself at the time, I take advantage of it. Game plan was to come in and fight. Whatever comes, whatever happens. Grappling is my strong suit. If they want to grapple with me, that’s a shame for them. We’re getting that top 15 opponent next.”
A quick takedown from Salkilld surprised Mullarky but he wasn’t able to maintain control on the ground as the lightweights worked back to the feet. Mullarky then turned to his own grappling as he trapped Salkilld against the cage but it was short lived success.
A moment later, Salkilld scored a beautiful reversal as he grabbed the body lock and threw Mullarky to the canvas. It didn’t take long for Salkilld to quickly advance his position and grabbed the back to begin fishing for submissions.
That’s when Salkilld locked his arms around the face and neck — cranking with all his might — and Mullarky tried his best to hold on but ultimately tapped out to end the fight.
Salkilld is now 4-0 in the UFC with 11 wins in a row overall as he continued to make waves in the lightweight division and he appears poised for an even greater challenge when he books his next fight.
