Happy Monday Dawg fans, and welcome to today’s Dots.
The holidays are a lot of things to a lot of people. If nothing else, the holidays are hopefully a reminder of the good things in life, things that are too often taken for granted.
I remember when the Sonics left in 2008. (I haven’t watched an NBA game since.) I thought to myself – “At least the Huskies can never be bought and moved to a different city by a bunch of a**hole billionaires.” No matter what state the program was in, they’d always live
right here on the shores of Lake Washington… That was during bleak times — in the throes of Tyrone Willingham’s dismantling of UW football, and just months before an unthinkable 0-12 season.
In 2025, the landscape of college football is twisting, breaking, and forming new mountains daily. The sport and all its organs – vital and otherwise – are moving into unexplored waters with no map, and with the stars in the night sky obscured. I don’t feel as confident as I did in 2008 as to the permanence of Washington football, at least the Washington football I’ve known all my life until recent years’ tectonic shifts. What will college football look like in 2040? I’m afraid to imagine that far ahead. But as long as there’s a purple W on a gold helmet, I’ve got a team to root for. And I’m thankful for what I’ve got.
