Former women’s champion Heather Hardy looks to be taking her next fight to the courtroom as ESPN reports that she’s formally filed a lawsuit against Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions company for over $10 million dollars.
Specifically, Hardy alleges negligence and violating the Muhammad Ali Act stemming from an August 2023 loss to Amanda Serrano in which she claims to have suffered a permanent brain injury and that warning signs were ignored by the company in order to pursue a financially promising
event.
MVP deny the allegations levied against them by saying they took all proper precautions when staging the fight in a written statement provided to ESPN.
“Heather’s participation on our August 5, 2023 card was arranged through her promoter, Lou DiBella, who contracted for the fight, and Heather publicly expressed her gratitude for the opportunity both before and after the fight. MVP followed applicable protocols for the fight, Heather was medically cleared to compete by the athletic commission overseeing the event, and the bout proceeded under the commission’s authority and supervision in accordance with their standard medical and safety requirements. MVP remains committed to fighter safety and supporting the athletes who compete in our events in full compliance with commission standards.”
Hardy has been inactive ever since that 2023 loss to Serrano and has since launched a GoFundMe to help aid her provide for basic living necessities as she deals with adverse health and vision effects which prevent her from being able to work consistently.
