Today, Aston Villa and Arsenal announced the loan of USWNT defender Jenna Nighswonger.
The deal also includes an option to buy for Aston Villa.
Director of Women’s Football, Marisa Ewers said: “Everyone
at Aston Villa is extremely excited to welcome Jenna to the club.
“We have been tracking her for some time and are delighted that she has bought into our exciting project.
“This signing forms part of our growing ambitions as we continue to build an exciting and competitive squad, and we believe Jenna will add real quality to the group and support our goals moving forward.”
Nighswonger has struggled to find consistent minutes at Arsenal and will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact with her new club.
There were reports that should could head back to NWSL, but that was not the case. With the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup approaching, this is a move she needed to make for playing time before Emma Hayes makes her final roster decisions next year.
