The Seminoles suffered their first loss of the season this past Friday at the hands of the Virginia Cavaliers. It was a back-and-forth defensive “struggle” as both offenses marched up and down the field.
In total, the teams combined for over 950 yards of offense, including 256 yards on the ground for the Seminoles.
The Florida State offensive line gave up two sacks on the night but overall kept Tommy Castellanos on his feet. He was able to toss for over 250 yards and run for 78. Overall a solid performance for the offensive line.
Each week, Tomahawk Nation will take a peek at FSU’s PFF Grades along the offensive line, offering insights into the numbers and performances Please note, any player seeing minimal snaps may be excluded due to the small sample size.
- The total score is an average of the run and pass blocking scores. The scores will be weighted more towards where the player saw the most action.
- PFF isn’t a perfect scoring system. The graders cannot know 100% of the assignments on each play.
- PFF CFB Scale: 90-100 Elite, 85-89 All-Conference, 70-84 starter, 60-69 Backup, <60 Replaceable
- PFF grades are reevaluated throughout the week and may lead to changes after publication.

Florida State offensive line performance takeaways with @Ricobert11:
- 4 of your 5 OL had pass block grades of 70+ – which is great. Hansen (61) was decent, if unspectacular (2 pressures allowed). It was his 2nd worst pass rating on the year (57 vs Bama). His 59 is pass block rating in pure dropbacks (not shown above) was his worst on the season (63 vs Bama).
- Medley (56, 70 rush/pass block grade) played about the same as he did against Bama (60, 69).
- Petitbon’s pass blocking (76) has been consistently good all year (75, 80, 74, 76 through 4 games).
- The OL was in no way the reason FSU lost at UVA. Big picture, this unit is continuing to produce consistently – if unspectacularly. What a difference from last year’s unit.
