Dayot Upamecano has been a key figure at the heart of Bayern Munich’s defense in recent seasons. But despite his importance on the pitch, his future at the club is still not fully settled.
According to a report from Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern have not set a concrete deadline for the French defender to make a decision on his contract situation, but the expectation is clear: they want clarity soon. Ideally, that clarity comes by deadline day for the winter transfer window (Monday,
February 2, 2026, at 7 p.m. GMT, 2 p.m. EST). Board member for sport Max Eberl confirmed as much, stating that the club is currently waiting for a response from Upamecano.
The report mentions a final offer that has already been placed on the table, on that Bayern has no intention of building on. While there has been no definitive breakthrough yet, the club remains optimistic that an agreement will be reached in the near future. This cautious confidence suggests that negotiations are ongoing, even if they have yet to reach their conclusion.
For now, it is a waiting game. And as Bayern look to secure stability at the back, Upamecano’s decision could prove to be a crucial one heading into the next phase of the season.
