Jey Uso had a message for internet fans while speaking candidly on What Do You Wanna Talk About? With Cody Rhodes.
Reflecting on his rise as a singles star, Uso took pride in the work that set him apart from his twin brother, Jimmy, saying, “I bust my damn ass, uce. I’m a twin tag team. Now they know me. I take pride in that, uce.”
After a 15-year WWE career that took him from tag-team standout to world champion and into the company’s top tier, Uso believes he’s among WWE’s elite.
“I consider myself
a top guy,” he said. “And internet, whatever y’all say, I’m him. I’m ‘Main Event’ Jey Uso now. Y’all know which twin I am now.”
In 2025, Uso won the Men’s Royal Rumble, then defeated Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. Although he receives strong crowd reactions, wrestling legends like Jim Cornette have questioned his in-ring ability, while some fans dismissed him as little more than a catchphrase and entrance.
Uso didn’t shy away from the criticism, admitting his conditioning led to him making mistakes in the ring.
“I’ll say it. Hell yeah, I be tired. Damn, we only wrestle one time out the week. You know, I had to get my stamina up, but you know, damn, it happens,” said the current WWE World Tag Team Champion.
Uso’s recent comments were a more measured response than his November reaction after losing to CM Punk for the vacant world title, when he posted a middle finger emoji and “Y’all win” on Instagram.
In the midst of social media backlash, Punk defended Uso in January during an appearance on the Busted Open show. He said Uso is phenomenal, and that on any given night, he’s competing with Uso in popularity and merchandise sales — a sign of his fan appeal.
“Everybody’s going crazy for his music, they’re yeeting, they want him to run it back,” said Punk. “This dude could go out on TV for ten minutes and just yeet.”
After losing to LA Knight in the “Last Time Is Now Tournament,” Uso expressed frustration with his singles slump. He reunited with Jimmy soon after, and the twins beat AJ Styles and Dragon Lee on the final Raw of 2025 to win their ninth tag team title.
At this year’s Royal Rumble, his playful antics backfired when his cousin Roman Reigns punched him after encouraging him to “run it back” with his entrance. Uso later hit Reigns with a spear, but Reigns ultimately eliminated him from the match.
While he remains one of WWE’s top stars, Uso’s singles run is on pause — at least for now. That could change as soon as Monday, when he and Jimmy defend the tag titles against Alpha Academy on Raw.
