Harry Kane spoke recently in an interview posted on UEFA’s website about how his game has developed since joining Bayern Munich. Though he has been known as a goal-scorer throughout his career, he seems happy with the way his game has evolved and the freedom he has to create.
Kane told the interviewers (as recorded by @iMiaSanMia), “In my youth team days, I was always more of a midfielder/striker. I liked to play in different positions. When I broke into the Tottenham team, I was more of a No. 9 and
seen as a No. 9. But I feel like I’ve always had the passing range, the vision, and the football brain—the game understanding—throughout my whole career, and I think that’s just flourished these last couple of years especially, these last few years since I’ve been here at Bayern.”
Since arriving at Bayern, Kane has played 157 matches in all competitions. He has scored 155 goals and has assisted 37 goals, putting his goal contributions at over one per match.
He went on to say, “Right now, there’s a lot of freedom for me to get on the ball and make an impact, and also be the one to score the goals. I know I’m going to be judged on goalscoring first and foremost, but I feel like I can have much more of an impact on the game when I’m able to touch the ball more, play, and move and create space for other people.”
