The Mariners wrapped up their penultimate homestand of the regular season with a 4-3 win over the Rangers, stunning Texas in the bottom of the seventh inning on the back of Julio Rodríguez’s go-ahead three-run homer. They’ll kick of the final road trip of the regular season today with a three-game set in West Sacramento; first pitch will be at 6:40pm Pacific time.
In Mariners news:
- In case you missed it, Emerson Hancock threw a bullpen on Wednesday, his first baseball action since being placed on the injured list in late August. Hancock is hopeful to return this season, but he may be back in a relief role.
- Patrick Dubuque at Baseball Prospectus took a look at the four teams that have gotten negative WAR from their trade deadline acquisitions, and to the surprise of almost no one, the Mariners are at the bottom of the list thanks to the cratering of Taylor Ward. ($)

- With Shohei Ohtani hitting the injured list, the Dodgers are calling up top outfield prospect Josue De Paula, who will be making his big league debut in Miami. De Paula will be getting plenty of plate appearances at DH, but could play some outfield down the stretch.
- Mike Petriello took a deep dive into the Cubs, who have been scorching the ball at the plate while blowing away hitters from the mound. It’s a shame that there’s a secret third thing that it’s prudent to be good at in baseball.
- Orioles vice president of player and staff development Matt Blood has parted ways with the organization. Blood had been with the org since 2019, and was promoted to his now-former role last November.
