With the Cleveland Browns sitting at 1-5, there is a lot of blame to go around for what has gone wrong this season. There have been several issues regarding roster construction, but the play on the field
has also been subpar. Both the front office and coaching staff hold responsibility for the current state of the Browns – it is never just one thing. Looking at the overall body of work, is Andrew Berry or Kevin Stefanski more to blame for Cleveland’s struggles?
Kevin Stefanski
Stefanski has been awarded Coach of the Year twice during his tenure as the head coach of the Browns, but things haven’t always looked pretty. The team finished last season 3-14 and is not on track to improve much in the standings this season. He hasn’t had the most spectacular quarterback play to work with, but, at the same time, the play calling and in-game decisions also deserve criticism. Given the amount of time that Stefanski has been given to get things right, much of the criticism about his offense this year is fair.
Andrew Berry
Berry has been strongly criticized for many of his roster decisions, especially at the quarterback position. Even though the 2025 draft class looks spectacular, there are still many lingering feelings about the decisions that have been made at the quarterback position. Whether it was the choice to trade away a large amount of assets for Deshaun Watson, or this year’s drafting of Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, the team still doesn’t have a clear answer at the position. Given the importance of the quarterback position, it’s fair to give Berry a heavy amount of criticism. It is tough for a coach to put a good product out on the field without a good quarterback, which is why the General Manager deserves more criticism in this situation.
