We’re a day away from football.
Tomorrow night, in Australia for some reason, the 2026 NFL season officially begins.
Packers fans have to wait until Sunday for our first taste of the action, but it’s coming, and soon. And after weeks of training camp, it’s time to recalibrate expectations for what really matters on the field.
Training camp storylines about undrafted long shots and position battles between the fourth and fifth linebackers on the depth chart are fun, but when the rubber meets the road,
the Packers’ stars are going to be what carries the team. It’s that top quarter of the roster that really matters, the 10-15 best players who make the most money to make the biggest plays in the biggest spots. In other words, Anthony Campbell was a great distraction, but Tucker Kraft is going to be the guy who pays the bills for the Packers.
And that’s how it should be! Training camp should focus on the new and unknown. The regular season should focus on the tried and true. The biggest referendum on a team is how well its best players perform, and if the Packers haven’t put together a contender, we’ll see it based on how the players who are supposed to be the very best perform.
Sunday we get to start answering that question. Who will carry the Packers this year? Hopefully their stars — and hopefully most of them will be healthy for the whole season.
