A new quarterback has entered the equation for Tennessee, and it paints a clear picture of the direction Josh Heupel is about to go. Ryan Staub, a veteran quarterback coming from Colorado, will visit Tennessee.
Austin Price and Pete Nakos had the news.
Staub spent three seasons with Colorado, redshirting in 2024. The redshirt sophomore
passer will have two seasons of eligibility left.
Should this deal come together, this is a clear message — this is George MacIntyre’s job to lose.
Staub has played sparingly in Boulder, posting less than stellar numbers in his opportunities. The 6-1, 200 pound quarterback threw for 427 yards in four appearances this season. He threw three touchdowns and four interceptions, completing 54.5 percent of his passes. Staub was a 3-star prospect coming out of California in the class of 2023.
Once Tennessee swung and missed on Sam Leavitt and Beau Pribula committed to Virginia, this was the route that became clear. Heupel and company would either look to the FCS ranks or bring in a guy simply for depth purposes while MacIntyre and potentially Faizon Brandon look to secure the starting job.
Many of you wanted the program to simply roll with what they had recruited over the last two seasons — now it appears Tennessee is going to do just that.
