European football secured or not, it looks like Newcastle United might be leading the race for a highly coveted midfielder, to the extent of overtaking giants Liverpool for his signature.
The Magpies have emerged as one of the leading contenders to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara this summer, with Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke reporting the latest on the race to complete his transfer on May 16.
“Lamine Camara is likely to leave Monaco this summer as Newcastle United eye a move for him alongside
other Premier League suitors,” O’Rourke reported. “Monaco are one of those clubs that do bring players in, develop them and then sell them for the right price. That’s probably why these Premier League suitors have been encouraged that maybe Camara could be prised away from the Principality this summer.”
Newcastle, however, should brace to face strong competition for landing Camara.
“As things stand right now, you’ve got Liverpool and Newcastle who are probably the two front-runners for the Senegal international,” O’Rourke said. “Monaco are set for a fire sale of some key stars this summer after a disappointing campaign.”
Newcastle are expected to be active in the market despite their own struggles this season, which bodes well for incoming transfers of the like of Camara.
“Newcastle will be ambitious in the transfer market this summer,” O’Rourke reported.
