What is the story about?
Greetings, BBN!
Four more games shaped the standings last weekend. We now have five remaining teams that are unbeaten in conference play, four teams with two or more conference wins, five teams that have yet to win a conference game, one team that is 3-0 at the top, and one team that is 0-3 at the bottom.
Alabama held off Vanderbilt at home to improve to 2-0, Florida booted Texas down below it with just one game, even though beforehand the Gators were 1-3 overall and the Longhorns 3-1, and Texas A&M
kept itself at the top while extending Mississippi State’s losing streak.
Let’s take a look at the standings heading into Week 7:

Notes:
- Alabama is unbeaten in league play and has a head-to-head victory over Georgia. SEC first-place favorites, right? Not so fast. The two teams above them, Ole Miss and Texas A&M, do not have games scheduled against the Tide, and thus cannot be passed via head-to-head victories.
- Florida faced top-10 teams in its first and second SEC games, and it looks like they’ll face three or four more to come. They might finish with one of the best collections of wins in the country, but also not even make a bowl.
- Kentucky scored 14 points in its 35-14 loss to Georgia. If they had scored 14 in last year’s game, they would’ve won.
- Vanderbilt fell on the road to Alabama, putting a significant dent in their SEC championship game hopes. They still have lots of potential to have a great year, though.
- Big games next week include Alabama at Missouri and Georgia at Auburn. From a standings standpoint, the Alabama-Missouri game is much bigger due to both teams being unbeaten in league play.
