According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, a source told him that Denver Broncos running back JK Dobbins is “good” despite leaving Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury.
After the game, head coach Sean Payton made it sound like Dobbins hamstring injury was minor, and today, he did not rule out the veteran back for Sunday Night’s game vs. the Los Angeles Rams.
Second-year back RJ Harvey missed Sunday’s game due to a hamstring injury, so we will have to keep an eye on the injury report this week. It sounds like both are trending in the right direction for Sunday Night’s game, but we will have to wait and see.
With Dobbins having a lengthy injury history, it is good to see that he escaped this without suffering anything serious. Hamstring injuries are also tricky and can be re-aggravated easily, so it’ll be interesting to see if the team plays it safe with him this week. Dobbins made a bet with reporters during camp that he would owe them all drinks if he misses a game, so that could be on the line this week.
If Dobbins and/or Harvey are sidelined, or at least limited, the Broncos do have rookie running back Jonah Coleman to lean on if needed. The rookie helped ice the game late in the 4th quarter on Sunday vs. the Jaguars and showed off the talent and high football IQ that the team has praised since he was drafted. Head coach Sean Payton has repeatedly said that Coleman does not feel like a rookie out there, and he repeated that yesterday. Coleman smartly slid inbounds after picking up the first down to keep the clock running despite potentially fighting for more yards and padding his stats. That selfless play will win over coaches and teammates, and he earned real praise from Payton, Nix, and others after yesterday’s comeback victory.
At the end of the day, it is great to hear that Dobbins escaped a serious injury and is doing well and still in play for Sunday Night’s game. Same goes for Harvey, who brings a speed and pass-catching element to the Broncos’ backfield. With that said, I still want to see more of Jonah Coleman moving forward, and I think he earned that right with his performance on Sunday.
