“Cobe” is ready for title talk.
Undefeated Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight prospect Jacobe Smith steps in on short notice to face division staple Randy Brown in the co-main event of UFC Halloween (a.k.a. UFC Vegas 123) this weekend (Sat., Oct. 31, 2026) inside Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Smith has been sensational throughout his young UFC career—and he has yet to receive a full training camp for any of his four Octagon appearances. That has not stopped the undefeated 30-year-old
from demolishing everyone placed in front of him (like this).
The only lingering question has been his level of competition.
Smith’s UFC resume includes two promotional newcomers, an aging Niko Price and Preston Parsons (watch highlights), who was released shortly after their fight. That changes on Halloween when Smith faces Brown, a battle-tested veteran who has spent his entire UFC career competing against quality opposition, including former champions Jack Della Maddalena and Belal Muhammad.
Smith respects Brown’s experience, but he does not appear intimidated by it.
“Respect to his craft, his team and everything he’s doing, but he has to see me,” Smith told reporters during UFC Vegas 123 media day. “I think I’m the better fighter, and I’m going to get the job done on Halloween.”
“I’m going to be doing the dictating,” Smith continued. “Depending on how I feel when I get in the cage, he might get wrestled or he might get flatlined—walk-off knockout. It just depends. Sh—t happens in there, and it depends on how fast I start. We’ll see.”
A victory over Brown would give Smith the first established veteran name on his UFC resume From there, “Cobe” expects his next assignment to come against someone inside the Welterweight Top 15.
“I’m about ready to get that Top 15 fight,” Smith said. “You hear it a lot, but I feel like I’m right there. With me showing who I am on Halloween, I think the world is going to know that I’m ready. I’m going to handle business with him, and we’ll see where we go from there.”
Smith’s plan is aggressive but straightforward: defeat Brown, secure three ranked fights in 2027 and position himself for a championship opportunity early the following year.
“For me to be chasing that belt or getting ready for a title fight, I would love to get one early in 2028,” Smith said. “Do 2027, two or three fights—Top 15 opponents every fight—which I plan on finishing everybody. Then, early 2028, give me my chance.”
Smith (13-0) has looked like a future contender through four UFC appearances. Brown represents his first opportunity to prove that potential against a seasoned opponent.
If “Cobe” delivers another demolition on Halloween, his ambitious title timeline may not sound so unrealistic.
