I really wish EA would update the damn rosters. We are way better than the 3-4 record they currently have us at and a lot of that has to do with the repeatedly mentioned absence of Trinidad Chambliss and the severe underrating of the possibly the best running back in the conference.
Oh, to boot, they have Oklahoma 7-0 and ranked #2 in the country heading into this simulated matchup. We love having the game back, but some monthly or even bi-weekly MAJOR roster updates would be nice.
Game Flow
Would you be surprised
if I told you Ole Miss was down 10-0 after the first quarter and Austin Simmons had two interceptions on two drives? It’s like clockwork. Jovontae Barnes was responsible for the first quarter touchdown for the sooners.
After Simmons settled in on the road in Norman, the Rebs stormed back with 14 unanswered points behind a touchdown run by Logan Diggs and a 21 yard grab by Trey Wallace. Just before the end of the half, Barnes ran it in for his second score of the game to give OU a 17-14 lead at the half.
You can live with being down three at the half against a good defensive team. What you can’t live with is getting run out the stadium in the third quarter. John Mateer did his thing throwing for two and running in a third score to give the Sooners a 38-14 lead heading into the final frame.
Simmons did throw two more touchdowns to Wallace III, but it was not enough. The Sooners scored one more touchdown on the ground with Barnes to bring it to a 45-28 final.
Story of the Stats
In real life, the Sooners average 18 points in SEC play. Even if Ole Miss struggles on defense, the Sooners aren’t putting up 45 points because their offense just hasn’t shown they can.
Logan Diggs was the leading rusher for the Rebs with 105 yards on just seven carries.
Trey Wallace had three touchdowns on four catches for a total of 55 yards.
Two of the best Rebel defenders led the way with double digit tackles for both TJ Dottery and Wydett Williams Jr.
