Rutgers basketball returns another piece from last season as Darren Buchanan Jr. has announced that he will return to Rutgers for the 2026-2027 season.
The 6-foot-7, 235-pound guard appeared in 34 games for the Scarlet Knights last season, making 24 starts. Over that time, he averaged 8.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. He had one of the better
shooting percentages on the team last season, hitting 46.0 percent of his shots from the field, 35.3 percent of his shots from beyond the arc, and 59.0 percent of his shots from the free throw line.
Buchanan Jr. hails from Washington D.C. and committed to Virginia Tech out of high school. He redshirted his only season with the Hokies before moving on to George Washington, where he played one season.
This is the first time in his college career that he will be playing at the same college for two years in a row. Buchanan joins returning guards Tariq Francis, Lino Mark, and Jamichael Davis to help make up a very experienced backcourt.
