The New England Patriots added two more key players to their listed of injuries on Sunday. Neither left tackle Will Campbell nor running back TreVeyon Henderson were able to finish the 45-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel gave some updates on the two youngsters as well as veteran wide receiver A.J. Brown.
Patriots injury updates: 10/12
RB TreVeyon Henderson: The Patriots running back exited Sunday’s game in the second quarter with an ankle injury, and was initially
labeled questionable to return. He never emerged from the locker room, however, and was ultimately ruled out for the remainder of the game.
“We’ll evaluate here and see how it looks,” Vrabel said. “Wasn’t able to finish the game and if we see that on Wednesday, he’s going to be limited, then we’ll let you know he’ll be limited. And I know that [Henderson and Campbell] will do everything that they can to get back. But unfortunately, they weren’t able to finish the game. So, I don’t know where their availability will be just less than 24 hours after the game.”
WR A.J. Brown: With Week 5 in the books, the door is now open for the veteran wide receiver to return from injured reserve. Brown originally was sent to IR after the Patriots’ Week 1 loss in Seattle due to a high ankle sprain. There has been some recent optimism about his recovery, and Mike Vrabel did not rule out a return this week when asked whether there is a chance he returned to practice on Wednesday.
“A chance? Yes, there is.”
OT Will Campbell: New England’s starting left tackle left Sunday’s game on the same drive as Henderson, and like his teammate and fellow second-year player was originally announced as questionable before being ruled out. Campbell is reportedly dealing with a knee sprain, the severity of which was determined by an MRI on Monday. His status remains to be determined, but Vrabel appeared to be cautiously optimistic.
“We’ll see how the week goes,” he said. “It’ll get looked at and continues to rehab. Wasn’t able to finish the game, so I don’t know how much time he’ll miss — if he’ll be back towards the end of the week, if he’ll be back Wednesday. We’ll take it day by day and see how he feels tomorrow, see what he does Wednesday, and keep you updated on the injury report.”
