Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being
churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that — rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it’s just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- Final Bell Media’s Andrew Baydala believes Chris Jericho has “already agreed” to a WWE return. Sources also claim that Jericho is “very interested in working TNA,” which has led to some speculation about him making an appearance on the premiere episode of Thursday Night Impact on AMC next week.
- Multiple outlets indicate that Oba Femi is expected to be called up to the Raw roster after vacating the NXT championship this week. Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp mentioned the reason why Oba didn’t lose the NXT championship is because WWE wanted to protect him ahead of the call-up.
- WrestleVotes says there are already plans for Femi to be pushed near the top of the card on Raw and “prominently featured” at WrestleMania 42.
- One source told Votes that several people backstage in WWE were very confused by the decision to have Je’Von Evans’ official call-up take place during a commercial break on Raw. It sounds like WWE wants to put an emphasis on online-exclusive content, and Evans’ call-up may have been part of that strategy.
- The outlet also heard that WWE has had internal discussions about signing NJPW star David Finlay after his NJPW contract expires. They are interested in bringing him into NXT.
- Wrestling Observer Radio’s Bryan Alvarez notes that AEW used “legitimate” cinder blocks for Powerhouse Hobbs’ powerslam and Hangman Page’s Deadeye spots during the Lights Out match on Dynamite.
