Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we are talking about Mizzou Diamond Sports!
It was an exciting day for Mizzou diamond sports as the Tigers hosted Kansas in baseball, and played Missouri State in softball. While the softball team got it done, the baseball team fell in a back-and-forth affair.
Abby Carr shined once against for the Tigers pitching four innings while batting 3-for-4. She had two RBI on a two-run homer that helped Mizzou to its 8-5 victory over Missouri State.
Stefania Abruscato stayed hot with a triple as her March
Madness comes to an end. Hopefully she can bring it into April. (Editor’s note: True won’t mention it here so I will… Fania was his pick for Offensive MVP)
With the win, the Tigers have won 14 of their last 16 and are finally back above .500. With the end of the season in sight, it’s crazy to say this, but Mizzou has a chance at postseason play.
Mizzou Baseball had a record-breaking attendance in an exciting Border War matchup against the Kansas Jayhawks. In this episode of the chronicles: Jayhawk kills Tiger.
Despite the loss, the Tigers were down 6-0 at one point and had an exciting eight-run fourth inning that kept them in it, but pitching troubles allowed the Jayhawks to find their own momentum.
On the bright side, Mizzou broke its regular season attendance record at Taylor Stadium.

Got anything planned for Labor Day weekend? Maybe after Mizzou Football’s Thursday night season opener Tiger fans can make the trip to Chicago to watch volleyball play at Wrigley Field. Yeah, that’s right.
Exciting new-look volleyball match ahead for Mizzou. And it’s against a fun opponent that should make for a fun game.
Mizzou has candidates to provide the pass rushing “oomph” that they lost when Damon Wilson transferred to Miami and Zion Young graduated. There are many parts of a defense that need to click in order for the whole effort to work and rushing the passer is certainly one of them. Doing this exercise made me feel better about the potential of this group in 2026 (and much more appreciative of the staff nabbing Morgan out of the portal) but, until it is seen, it will remain a question mark of high importance that must be answered in the positive this fall.
All it takes is one key breakout, and I’m pretty confident the Tigers will find their guy.
Dowell was a revelation for coach Kellie Harper in year one, averaging 14.9 points as the second-leading scorer on the roster. In addition she added 6.1 rebounds, serving as the perfect offensive counterbalance to Grace Slaughter (who is already confirmed she will be returning for her senior season).
Tough to see Dowell go. She’s been quite the cornerstone for Mizzou this past season.
Saturday’s open practice/intrasquad session featured practice sessions on vault — I saw sticks from Olivia Kelly, Ayla Acevedo (twice!) and just a slight foot move from Railey Jackson — beam, and bars before moving into more of a meet-style format with two sets of six-up lineups to test out some different variations. Some tough-scoring judges were on hand — it appeared to be a combo of coaching staff and Kennedy Griffin on beam (I couldn’t see the bars scoring, mostly).
Mizzou Gym had one final look ahead of NCAA Regionals. Karen dives into what she saw (with some videos)!
The stadium felt bigger than a regular Tuesday night. A record crowd for a regular season game thoroughly packed Taylor Stadium to the brim for the second leg of the Border showdown and it left me with the feeling of wanting to see this not just for this game, but more home games in the future.
Mizzou’s stadium was the real reason the Tigers were in it on Tuesday. Exciting to see for a program that really hasn’t had much traction in the past few years.
Over at Rock M+ we have more Mizzou football discussion and basketball discussion with the offseason picking up for football, and March for basketball.
From Rock M Radio: Before the Box Score
On this episode, Nate and Nathan discuss a little Missouri sports, college football disparities, and recent recruiting updates. The guys look at the impact of injuries the team and explore the broader implications of financial disparities in college sports. Thanks Drink for the quote. Note: this was recorded before QB1 was decided.
