With no disrespect meant to the Marlins, with whom the Phillies conclude their series today, it’s time to think about the Mets. It’s deep into June, and the Phillies are just about to play their Flushing-based rivals for the first time this season. Blame the balanced schedule; it’s kept the two star-crossed haters apart for too long. The story of the Mets’ season has already largely been written: they’ve sunk into a morass of losses and disappointment. And while that surely brings some joy to the Philadelphia
faithful, there’s a tinge of disappointment in recognizing the fact that the Mets’ season was sunk before the Phillies could have a chance to help them take on water. Rivalry will always have a bit of extra heat to it, but you might have to look deep into your collection of old grudges to work up some fury for this series. Or not. Perhaps you’re a true hater, always able to conjure up some righteous fury against the orange and blue.
So today’s question is: how are you feeling about this matchup with the Mets?
