It is getting to be that time of year when, as Vincent Price once said:
“Darkness falls across the land
The midnight hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize y’all’s neighborhood
…”
If your neighborhood is one where trick-or-treat is taking place tonight, be safe and have fun!
While we wait for grizzly ghouls from every tomb to close in and seal our doom, let’s check out the latest news and notes about the Cleveland Browns and the NFL in today’s edition of the Saturday Dawg Chow.
Dawgs By Nature:
- Tyson Campbell’s been a difference-maker since his trade to Cleveland (Matthew Wilson) – Since arriving in Cleveland in mid-October, Tyson Campbell’s been a dominant force for the Browns on the outside.
- Browns vs. Patriots: Week 8 Need to Know (Thomas Moore) – Cleveland is looking for a win before the bye week. Here is what you need to know about the game vs. New England.
- Passing Reggie White: Browns DE Myles Garrett on the cusp of something great (Jared Mueller) – Anyone being compared to the great Reggie White must be amazing, but Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett is set to pass his sack record.
- Browns, Patriots injuries: 5 limited in practice, 3 questionable for Week 8 (Jared Mueller) – David Njoku is among the big names on the injury report in Week 8 for the Cleveland Browns vs. New England Patriots.
- NFL trade deadline: Pros, cons for Browns to deal TE David Njoku (Barry Shuck) – Is Cleveland a buyer or seller at the NFL trade deadline? David Njoku rumors could pick up after Week 8.
- 2026 NFL draft order: TNF moves Browns pick from Jaguars up, for now (Jared Mueller) – Following Week 7, the Browns were slotted in the sixth spot, with the pick they received from the Jacksonville Jaguars sitting 20th in the order. With the Los Angeles Chargers winning on Thursday Night Football, knocking off the Minnesota Vikings, the Jaguars selection moved up a spot, and Cleveland’s strength of schedule dropped slightly (an important NFL draft tiebreaker).
- Cleveland Browns offense can continue to grow (Curtiss Brown) – The Cleveland Browns offense needs a few things, including head coach Kevin Stefanski and quarterback Dillon Gabriel to get things figured out.
Cleveland Browns:
- Browns’ Dillon Gabriel doesn’t care what you think. His focus is on proving himself right (The Athletic) – The 41st starting quarterback in the Cleveland Browns’ post-1999 era is the first Hawaiian to hold the job, the first left-hander of the bunch, the first to officially get the starting assignment just hours before an intercontinental flight, and the first with a minivan endorsement deal.
- Browns defense facing full-field threat in Patriots quarterback Drake Maye (Beacon Journal) – The Cleveland Browns have faced some pretty good quarterbacks already this season. The next one they face may be having the best season of any of them.
- Grant Delpit doing a ton for top-ranked defense, and still wants to do more (Browns Zone) – Being named a Pro Bowl alternate in 2023 signified safety Grant Delpit had taken the next step in his career. He wasn’t impressed.
- How Browns Jim Schwartz added a twist to what his defense does best (cleveland.com) – Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz said on Thursday that he didn’t necessarily blitz more than usual against the Dolphins on Sunday, though he certainly made it look like he was blitzing more.
NFL:
- The Honey Hole: Patriots QB Drake Maye might have a signature throw (patriots.com) – One of second-year quarterback Drake Maye’s favorite throws has led to several big plays for the New England Patriots offense this season.
- Who is Michael Lombardi? Debunking the myths of UNC’s GM and Bill Belichick’s Consigliere (Pablo Torre Finds Out Podcast) – Mike Lombardi, the UNC football GM, likes to talk about himself as a three-time Super Bowl champion operating an NFL team in college.
- Bucs’ Baker Mayfield says Saints’ play ‘hasn’t been that clean’ (Tampa Bay Times) – Baker Mayfield hasn’t just kept receipts. He waved them in the New Orleans Saints’ faces on Wednesday.
- Giants-Eagles rivalry and the NFL punt that lives in infamy (ESPN) – Just last weekend, the New York Giants allowed 33 fourth-quarter points against the Denver Broncos to lose a game in which it seemed impossible for them to do anything other than win. How wild was it? In the 1,602 previous instances of an NFL team leading by 18 or more points with six minutes left, all 1,602 teams that were ahead finished with a victory. The Giants, who had a 26-8 lead late, somehow didn’t. It was stunning, astounding, confounding. It seemed unprecedented. Sadly, Giants fans knew it wasn’t.
