Floyd Mayweather has a message to everyone hating on him over his recent Mike Tyson fight announcement: keep hating.
News broke yesterday (Thu. Sept. 5th, 2025) that the 48-year-old Mayweather would fight the 59-year-old Tyson in a spring 2026 boxing exhibition. Tyson’s last fight was the abysmal November 2024 Jake Paul ‘fight,’ a nothingburger that saw Paul paw at a largely immobile “Iron Mike” for 8 rounds. It did make Paul (who promoted the event through his company MVP) $40 million and Tyson $20
million, which qualified it as a massive success.
There’s clearly still a lot of money that can be squeezed out of Mike Tyson nostalgia, and who better to pulp it than fellow boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, who has sold more than 24 million pay-per-views during his career and generated over $1.6 billion in revenue?
The whole affair makes more dollars than sense, and fans have not reacted positively to the news. At least Jake Paul’s fight with Mike Tyson was audacious and novel. At this point, putting a clearly shot Tyson back in the ring just feels like a cynical cash grab.
In a new video released on social media, Floyd Mayweather mocked those who were upset about the announcement.
“S–t, I’m pretty sure I’d be pretty upset too if I was somebody else,” he said, sitting on a private jet in front of massive stacks of hundred dollar bills. “I’d be mad at Mayweather too. How the f–k for 29 years, 30 years, you keep getting money like this? I’d be mad too and s–t. I’d be hating on Mayweather too. Continue to hate. People only talk about winners, I’m a winner, so. Continue to talk.”
As if the pile of money in front of him wasn’t enough, he started showing off his various designer phones and luggage.
“See, I’m ballin’ the f–k out,” Mayweather said. “Crocodile phone, Himalayan phones, crocodile bags. That’s my life, man. Keep hating!”
No finer details have come out for the fight other than its exhibition status and a spring timeline. Will the fight end up on Netflix, who were very happy with the 108 million live viewers Tyson vs. Paul generated? Or will Mayweather and Tyson bank on people buying pay-per-views, despite the PPV era clearly being over?
