Bayern Munich’s flying start to the 2025/26 season is owing no small part to the return to form of Germany men’s national team winger Serge Gnabry for both club and country.
After scoring in the international break Gnabry put in another solid performance in the Champions League, punctuated by an assist for Harry Kane in a 3-1 win over Chelsea.
“He definitely has the coach’s trust,” Joshua Kimmich said in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia. “The coach relies on him and has always relied on him — even
after games where things weren’t quite so good. With Serge, you can see that his confidence is coming back, that he’s gaining more security. Now he’s playing in a different position. You can see that he’s becoming more comfortable with finding the space, with being able to contribute his strengths there. He seems very, very free — on and off the pitch. In the end, that’s reflected in his performances.”
Gnabry has rarely looked this good and this dangerous in recent years, and perhaps the new position — playing centrally in behind and sometimes alongside the striker — has made the difference.
