Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is set to accelerate the process of his contract renewal with the club after officially severing ties with his agent.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who report that De Jong and his now former agent, Ali Dursun, have officially ended their professional relationship after a months-long, ugly separation process that began once the Dutchman lost trust in Dursun amid all the drama surrounding his transfer status with Barça and the lack of progress on a new contract,
which had been his desire since the beginning.
De Jong has already hired another agent, who is also Dutch, and his new representative made contact with Barça sporting director Deco to establish a relationship and begin talks for his client’s new deal with the club.
Barça are in no rush to reach an agreement on Frenkie’s new contract given their other urgent needs such as securing the registrations of Wojciech Szczesny, Gerard Martín and Roony Bardghji as well as finalizing the departures of Iñaki Peña, Héctor Fort and Oriol Romeu before the end of the summer transfer window.
Once all that business is done the Catalans will fully focus on addressing De Jong’s situation and reaching an agreement. His current deal expires next summer, but there’s clear desire from both sides to agree on a renewal and securing a new deal should be a smooth process now that Frenkie’s agent situation has been resolved.
