Karim Adeyemi has been touted as one of the brightest young talents in German football over the past few years. His name has garnered plenty of attention since joining Borussia Dortmund in 2022. Adeyemi though, wasn’t always destined for Borussia Dortmund. Karim Adeyemi once dreamed of playing in Bayern Munich red.
Adeyemi actually played for FC Bayern at the youth level, and was a fan of the Bavarian giants as well as Bayern legend Arjen Robben growing up.
Adeyemi told WAZ that there were a few things
that made Borussia Dortmund out to him. Adeyemi referenced fewer resources, a club that fought for titles, had very good players, and the best fans in Germany. While the majority of this statement is true, some Bayern, Köln, and Frankfurt fans might disagree with the latter claim.
“I don’t need to lie. I played for FC Bayern, and as a little boy, I was a huge Arjen Robben and Bayern fan. But the older I got, the more I liked that Dortmund was the club in Germany with fewer resources, that fought for titles, had very good players, and the best fans in Germany. Today, I enjoy every moment when I’m at home in Signal Iduna Park. That’s why I chose Borussia Dortmund,” Adeyemi said.
Since debuting for the German national team in 2021, Adeymi has only made 8 appearances at the senior level, but it would be too harsh to say that things haven’t panned out for the pacy winger. While Adeyemi has not yet his high ceiling, his last season for Dortmund was his best yet, with lots to be excited about for the 2025/26 season. Perhaps it is never too late to see Adeyemi in red once again.
