Gotham FC head coach Juan Carlos Amorós is staying home this weekend following the birth of his second child as the team travels to the West Coast to face Seattle Reign FC on Friday, May 15th at 10 p.m. ET.
Lead assistant Coach Shaun Harris serve as acting head coach for Gotham FC in this match. This will be the first time these two teams meet this season, with both matchups in 2025 ending in draws.
Amorós has not traveled with the team since Gotham’s opening game against Boston Legacy FC on March
14. His first road trip absence came during the team’s April 4th matchup against the Kansas City Current, as the club announced that his family was awaiting the birth of their second child. In post-game remarks following the club’s next match, Amorós noted that, “When it came to the birth of my second child, coaches – normally we don’t take the time or we sacrifice a lot for this passion that we have. Something that I told to myself now that I’ve been coaching in a game the night before my first child was born, training the day of my wedding, training the day of my second child being born – it’s important to bring some awareness to the job that we do, because coaches, we’re humans as well.”
Amorós joined the club ahead of the 2023 season and has led the team to two NWSL Championship wins in 2023 and 2025.
Gotham FC has played nine matches so far, with four wins, three draws, and two losses to their name. Seattle Reign has won three, drawn two, and lost three of their eight games.
