66’ – West Ham equalize, they have leveled it. Diouf gets on his bike and beats both O’Brien and Tarky on the left sideline, his hopeful cross is only partly headed away by Keane, falls to Bowen, he sets
up a shot that deflects off Keane’s head and beats Pickford, 1-1.
63’ – OMG! Almost a disaster!! Tarky misses a long ball up, O’Brien’s headed back pass is too soft and Summerville nicks in but the goalie gets enough of a touch and it’s a corner. Whewwwwww.
West Ham’s first corner is cleared easily. Now Kilman is booked for bringing down Beto.
57’ – Low cross from Garner cut for a corner on the right this time. KDH inswinger, headed away, Garner with a lovely volley comes off Grealish’s heel as the seas parted and went straight to Areola.
Nuno Santo makes the first change with Magassa going off, and Potts on for the midfielder.
56’ – Dipping cross from Diouf as Ndiaye gives him room, and it’s in no-man’s-land between the goalie and the backline and goes out. Phew.
Grealish sets up KDH for a shot, blocked.
52’ – Grealish sets up a Garner shot, does not have the venom of the striker against Brighton in the home opener though, and it deflects straight to Areola.
Blues counter at pace as KDH is in space and finds Grealish with lots of space. His cutback towards Beto goes off Mavropanos’ arm and again the entire stadium howls for a penalty! A VAR review comes back negative, ball came off Areola’s foot and popped up to hit the defender’s outstretched hand. Bang-bang play they like to call it.
50’ – Beto does better when running onto balls, and shows it this time getting the ball. However, he goes down too easily under contact and loses the ball too easily.
Ndiaye sets up a Garner shot, blocked! JOB long throw, short by Gana for Grealish and the midfielder has to step in to prevent a counter.
48’ – Very good passage of play almost ends in a cross towards Beto, ends up falling to O’Brien and his shot is blocked for a corner from the left. Only partly cleared, comes to Grealish who squares for Gana who hit it solidly and it’s not a Row Z shot this time, but skims just over. Was there a deflection there.. hard to say.
By the way, Magassa did get booked for a late sliding challenge on Garner in that last sequence.
46’ – The visitors get the second half underway.
Halftime Thoughts – So far so good from Everton who have kept West Ham at bay and managed to pot a goal of their own to lead 1-0.

45+1’ – Halftime whistle goes. Michael Keane has the only goal of the game, his bullet header the difference between the two sides.
45’ – Magassa wins a foul off KDH right in front of the Wolves dugout. Taken short and Everton deal with it.
Bowen tries to get to a ball behind and Keane times his shoulder-charge perfectly, sends the smaller forward sprawling, ball out for a goal kick.
Minute to be added on here.
43’ – Garner looks hurt here, tripped on Summerville and goes flying into the advertising hoardings. Getting some medical attention on the sidelines as play continues.
40’ – All West Ham for the last few minutes as Everton can’t stay on the ball.
Bowen almost finds Fullkrug behind the backline, Keane recovered well.
36’ – Summerville leads JOB on a merry dance and wins a freekick on the edge of the box as the defender slid in late. Dangerous freekick though, ball bounces around and KDH sends it into orbit.
35’ – Ndiaye cuts in from the right, his left-footed cross is perfect and KDH gets his head on it, and it goes just wide. Argh, that was very, very close.
33’ – Great defensive effort from Ndiaye stopping Summerville who had already beaten two Blues. That starts a quick counter, KDH cross zipped into the box and Diouf beats Beto to the header.
Walker-Peters with his third foul on Grealish, and this time he’s booked to a sarcastic cheer by the home crowd.
30’ – Hammers committing more resources forward which gives the Blues more gaps to exploit. Now O’Brien stepped on by Diouf and it’s a freekick on the edge of the attacking third, by the right touchline. KDH into the box, Hammers clear.
26’ – JOB does well to cut out a through ball for a throw. Taken long, some head tennis and then Pickford nabs it. Long ball, and Magassa goes in from behind on Grealish and the crowd howls as the West Ham player gets away without a booking. Tarky goes over to the ref to ask why only he is in the book so far.
KDH into the box, cleared away, second cross also cleared and then Keane barges into Bowen to stop the counter.
24’ – Long ball up, and second time tonight Beto miscontrols the ball and Everton lose possession.
23’ – Tarkowski gets booked for a sliding tackle on Fullkrug from a poor backpass by Gana. The German forward certainly made a meal of it.
17’ – Grealish to Myko, he finds KDH running in behind the backline, cross blocked for the first corner of the game. Garner inswinger, Areola bravely punches it away.
KDH, back into the box by Garner, and Keane hammers in his header over the goalie!! GOAL!!! 1-0 to the Blues!!
15’ – Tarky cross floated into the box, Beto heads it on but it’s straight at Areola.
Excellent counter. Myko fights for the ball on the touchline, Gana plays it on, KDH takes it and chooses not to shoot, finds Ndiaye cutting in and his shot is right at the keeper too.
13’ – Debutant Magassa blocks a KDH cross and Everton are denied a corner. He’s taken Ward-Prowse’s spot in the lineup.
Summerville with a mazy run into the box, ball rebounds and falls to him and Myko with a good block.
11’ – Good sequence – Grealish, Gana, KDH, Myko cross, blocked for a throw-in. Deep ball into the box, hacked away.
10’ – Twice now Bowen has been able to cross the ball in ahead of Myko, and now Keane has to step up and block a Paqueta shot.
7’ – We have a minute’s applause for Bradley Lowery now.
Good cross into the the box, falls awkwardly to Gana who can’t control the ball and Hammers can clear.
5’ – Everton holding the ball up well, poking and probing at the Hammers backline. The trio of Grealish – KDH – Ndiaye have all won the ball back quickly after the Blues have lost it.
2’ – Beto almost wriggles his way through a couple of defenders but loses his footing. He looks hungry.
1’ – The Blues get us underway!
The siren has gone, Z-Cars has played to great cheer, the light show has gone with aplomb and we’re ready to play some football!
Starting Lineups
Everton: No real surprises here as David Moyes has chosen his strongest lineup here trying to prove a point to his former employers. Beto gets the call up front ahead of Barry, who could yet make an impact as a second half substitute. 200th Premier League appearance for Everton for Gana tonight.
West Ham: Nuno Santo in his first game in charge hasn’t tried to change too much here. Small surprise that deadball specialist James Ward-Prowse is not in squad at all, won’t miss his corners and freekicks.
Match Preview
Everton are back to the friendly and new confines of Hill Dickinson Stadium looking to get back on track after two away games resulted in defeats of differing natures. A close loss in the Merseyside Derby at Anfield might have been foreseen, but David Moyes making seven changes and then the side playing pathetically poorly in the Carabao Cup exit at Wolves has certainly gotten the fanbase riled up again.
West Ham were struggling under Graham Potter but have now made the change, replacing the former Brighton and Chelsea manager with Nuno Santo, formerly of Wolves, Tottenham and then Nottingham Forest. The Portuguese manager was closely linked with taking over at Goodison Park at one point too.
The injury situation remains about the same for the Blues with Jarrad Branthwaite and Merlin Rohl still out, while the visitors have Tomas Soucek suspended and Aaron Wan Bissaka ill.
