There has been plenty of leaks surrounding the Golden State Warriors in recent weeks, particularly around head coach Steve Kerr. As the second-longest tenured coach in the league contemplates his future, there have been rumblings hinting that some in the organization want to go in a different direction. Complaints about his rigidity and even political outspokenness have surfaced. However, according to a report by Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, those frustrations are not representative of anyone’s
desire for him to remain the head coach.
“There is not one person within the organization who wants Kerr to walk away, sources said,” Siegel wrote. “Lacob and Dunleavy have both made it known to Kerr that they want him back, as have Curry, Green, and the entire locker room. One of the main reasons Butler feels so comfortable with the Warriors since arriving at last year’s trade deadline is due to the family-like atmosphere Kerr has helped create.”
Since Jonathan Kuminga was traded at the deadline, players up and down the Warriors roster has been effusively praising Kerr publicly. As injuries derailed the Dubs contention chances late in the regular season, questions about Golden State’s effort never emerged. No one quit on the team despite the team’s on-court struggles.
There is one mitigating factor that could undercut Siegel’s report. Warriors’ brass may want Kerr to return, but some may want him to do so on their terms (financial, with staff changes, with a more flexible system, etc.). Nevertheless, Dub Nation should have an answer in the next week as to whether Kerr will be the team’s head coach in the 2026-27 season.
