Spain’s Under-21 side continued their flawless European Championship qualifying campaign with a composed and professional 2–0 win over Romania — and Real Madrid striker Gonzalo García was at the heart
of it.
Gonzalo, who played the full 90 minutes, opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a brilliant header after timing his run perfectly to meet Iván Fresneda’s pinpoint cross:
The goal capped off a strong start from Spain, who controlled possession and dictated the tempo throughout the opening half. Gonzalo’s presence between the lines and ability to attack the box gave Romania problems all night.
Spain doubled their advantage shortly after the break. In the 53rd minute, Fresneda — already credited with the assist for the opener — made it 2–0 himself with a composed finish after joining the attack from deep.
With this result, Spain U-21 remain perfect in qualifying, winning all five of their matches so far. The victory also extends their lead at the top of the group: they now sit five points clear of Finland, who were held to a 0–0 draw by Kosovo.
For Gonzalo García, it was another decisive performance — further evidence that he continues to grow as a central figure for both the national setup and Real Madrid’s long-term plans.
