After pitching five innings in last night’s loss to the Marlins, Xzavion Curry was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse ahead of today’s game. In his place the Mets recalled New Jersey native Kevin Herget to take his spot in the bullpen.
In Curry’s five Mets appearances in 2026, he’s been worth 0.2 bWAR, pitching 11 innings to a 3.27 ERA. Last night, he took over for Kodai Senga with no one out in the fifth and allowed two runs on six hits while striking out two and not walking a batter across his five innings of
work. Curry saved the bullpen for the last two games of the series and has been rewarded for his hard work by a trip back upstate. He would not have been available for a few days after his performance last night, and with the likely departure of a few additional bullpen pieces over the next few days, this does not appear to be Curry’s last time on the big league roster.
Kevin Herget is making his 2026 MLB debut for the Mets. Last season, he appeared in six games for the Mets and one for the Braves across 13 total innings. Herget has spent most of 2026 on the Injured List, and was just assigned to Syracuse four days ago.
