The Seattle Seahawks have pulled off yet another major midseason trade under John Schneider, acquiring perennial Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts. Pending a physical, the Seahawks will give up a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-rounder. Not bad for someone who’s long been at the top of his position and still remains among the very best guards in the NFL.
You’re probably wondering how this affects Seattle’s 2027 draft capital, as giving up a Round 1 or Day 2 pick is one
of those things that can make a fanbase uneasy no matter who the trade is for. Well, I have great news on the draft front.
Seahawks current native 2027 draft picks
- Round 1
- Round 2
- Round 5
- Round 7
They lost their 2027 fourth-rounder to the Cleveland Browns to get Beau Stephens, while their sixth-rounder belongs to the Los Angeles Chargers from the Avery Smith trade. Their native third-round pick is going to the Colts in the Nelson trade.
Only four native picks? Boo. But wait! This is where things get fun!
Seahawks tentative additional 2027 draft picks
- Round 3 (Nolan Teasley comp pick)
- Round 4 (Boye Mafe projected comp pick)
- Round 5 (Kenneth Walker projected comp pick)
- Round 5 (Riq Woolen projected comp pick)
- Round 6 (Coby Bryant projected comp pick)
- Round 7 (conditional pick from Michael Jerrell trade)
There’s actually a small chance the Walker comp pick becomes a fourth-rounder, which we’ll explain at another time. Otherwise, there’s a reason why John Schneider hoarded as many comp picks as possible during free agency. If Seattle wanted to make a trade or two at the deadline, they wouldn’t be put in a situation where they enter a stronger draft class (on paper) with a paucity of picks.
Seattle tentatively has 10 draft picks and still have skin in the game in all seven rounds. Perhaps they’re not done making major roster moves with two weeks to go until the deadline, but the Seahawks have the best of both worlds: they are well stocked for April, and they’re stocking up for their latest Super Bowl push.
