Missouri volleyball continued its late-season momentum Sunday, sweeping Alabama 3-0 on senior day at the Hearnes Center to extend its winning streak to three matches.
The Tigers defeated the Crimson Tide 25-13, 25-21 and 25-11, earning their second consecutive sweep and improving to 11-8 overall and 4-3 in Southeastern Conference play. Missouri entered the match 9-2 at home, while Alabama fell to 9-8 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
Missouri controlled the opening set from the middle stages onward,
using a series of scoring runs to pull away from Alabama. After the teams traded points early, the Tigers built a 6-2 advantage and forced an Alabama timeout. Missouri continued to apply pressure, extending its lead to 19-12 before closing the set with five consecutive points to win 25-13.
Paige Felder helped lead the Tigers offensively throughout the match, delivering important kills during Missouri’s scoring runs. Grace O’Reilly also provided a spark in the opening set, while Missouri’s blocking helped disrupt Alabama’s attack.
The second set presented a greater challenge for Missouri as Alabama stayed within striking distance early. The teams traded points through the first half of the set before the Tigers created separation behind their serving. Lauren Larkin recorded an ace to tie the set at 9-9, and Ainoah Cruz followed with an ace later in the set to help Missouri take a 14-12 lead.
Nina Mandovic added consecutive service aces after the media timeout, helping Missouri build an 18-13 advantage. Alabama responded with a three-point run to cut the deficit to 21-18, prompting a Missouri timeout. The Tigers regrouped, and Larkin delivered the decisive kill to secure a 25-21 victory and a 2-0 match lead.
Missouri wasted little time in the third set, opening with five consecutive points to establish control. The Tigers continued to build their advantage through aggressive attacking and serving, taking a 15-6 lead into the media timeout. Alabama struggled to slow Missouri’s momentum as the Tigers pulled away, with Missouri scoring the final four points to finish the set 25-11.
Head coach Dawn Sullivan praised her team’s preparation and competitiveness after the match, pointing to the serving pressure that helped Missouri dictate play.
“I think one heck of a match,” Sullivan said. “The players, I think they showed up. They were ready to compete. They stayed composed. They served the crap out of the ball, and it’s really exciting for the individuals we get to celebrate today.”
The match also marked senior day for Kayleen Rush, Kimani Johnson, Sierra Dudley and Grace O’Reilly. Sullivan reflected on the importance of the group, highlighting the different ways the seniors have contributed to Missouri’s culture and development.
Missouri will look to carry its momentum into its next match, traveling to face South Carolina as the Tigers continue their push through SEC play.
